six month nervous system preparation for 10-day Goenka style vipassana retreats
Get Me to Vipassana
Here's what I wasn’t aware of about vipassana - and maybe you aren’t either: A 10-day vipassana retreat releases a lifetime of stored trauma (sankaras) from your body. If your nervous system isn't prepared, you can become overwhelmed and retraumatized. It can be dangerous for anyone that is not prepared to face themselves for such a prolonged period of time.
Get Me to Vipassana is this preparation.
Vipassana — specifically Goenka style, is the experience and technique I am most grateful to have foundnd.
A practice that was not about transcendence, rather presence. No mystical realms, only direct sensation. Not escaping from the body, but feeling fully into it.
What makes Goenka vipassana uniquely grounded is that it anchors you in your body. The eternal now. You focus on your breath. You scan your physical form — heat, cold, pressure, tingling. How does your body feel right now? That's the only question that needs answering.
The method is consistent worldwide. Experienced teachers are there to guide you. Goenka himself guides you through recordings. It is a clear protocol with a defined structure.
You sit with whatever arises — pain, pleasure, boredom, shadow material — and learn to have equanimity with it all. You begin to understand the cravings and aversions that have held you captive your entire life.
Noble silence. Scheduled sits. Limited input.
You return to yourself. You reclaim your awareness.
And nothing will ever be the same when you come out the other side.
